Listen: Titans' David Long was mic'd up during mandatory minicamp

June 17, 2022 by Titans Wire Leave a Comment

The Tennessee Titans completed their mandatory minicamp this week. The three-day event consisted of two practices open to the media Tuesday and Wednesday, and then closed meetings and workouts on Thursday.

In case you missed the events of the two open practices, we have the rundown of all the biggest takeaways here (Day 1) and here (Day 2).

As is often the case with offseason practices, a player was mic’d up for the Titans’ mandatory minicamp. This time it was linebacker David Long, who is entering his fourth season in the NFL, which is also a contract year.

Here’s the sights and sounds from Long’s perspective at mandatory minicamp:

After playing a backup role in his first season, Long has made big strides the past two years and is now firmly established as one of Tennessee’s starters at inside linebacker going into 2022.

Now, he’s looking to become a more vocal leader on the field.

“It’s not my nature, but you can’t be quiet in the field,” Long said. “That’s a side of my game I’m trying to improve in. Knowing everybody’s job and communicating.”

Long recently received some national recognition from Bleacher Report, which called him the Titans’ “best-kept secret.” He was also listed as a “young, ascending” linebacker and ranked 17th in Pro Football Focus’ rankings of the position.

If Long can show out like he did last season, he should land himself a nice payday in free agency in 2023, whether it’s from the Titans or another team.
