Malik Willis had very telling quote about Titans WRs after Week 9

November 7, 2022 by Titans Wire

The Tennessee Titans’ wide receivers failed rookie quarterback Malik Willis in his second career start in the Week 9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Willis wasn’t perfect by any stretch, but he did show improvement as a passer, but Tennessee’s receivers simply weren’t able to capitalize.

Not only did the group fail to get open all game long, but the receivers also had some key drops, ultimately leading to zero receptions for the wideouts, something that had only happened to NFL teams three times since 2000.

When asked what was going through his mind in overtime as he was running for his life to avoid sacks while his receivers failed to get open, Willis had a very telling quote that showed he was borderline dejected near the end.

“I hope someone gets open soon,” Willis admitted. “I can’t keep doing this.”

The rookie might receive some slack for that, but it’s hard to be upset over it based on what we saw on Sunday night. Willis did, however, make sure to say he can’t get mad over it because he makes mistakes, too.

“It is a team sport,” Willis added. “I miss throws sometimes. I can’t be mad if someone doesn’t make a play. We are not perfect. We all make plays, and we all miss plays. It is the way the game goes. You can’t be mad at them because of that. We are one team, and if I did that, that is disrespectful and just arrogant. I make mistakes as well.”

Hopefully Treylon Burks will return this week to provide a boost, but it remains to be seen if the rookie can do enough to make a dent in what is a horrible situation for Tennessee’s offense.
