After the Buffalo Bills let him walk this offseason, Matt Barkley appeared to be without many options left to continue his NFL career. On Thursday, the former USC quarterback announced that he had found another opportunity to play professional football.
Barkley shared on social media that he has signed a new deal with the Tennessee Titans. He didn’t provide any other details and the team hasn’t confirmed any agreement, but it looks like the 30-year-old is headed to Nashville.
“The next episode.. I’ve signed with the Titans!” Barkley wrote on Twitter.
Barkley spent the last three years in a back-up role with the Buffalo Bills. He’s seen time in eight games since 2018, throwing for 788 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions.

Barkley should factor into the Titans back-up competition with Logan Woodside and Deshone Kizer. Ryan Tannehill will comfortably hold onto the team’s starting gig, but the veteran journeyman could be a reliable option of anything was to happen to Tennessee’s QB 1.
After coming into the league in the fourth round of the 2013 draft with the Philadelphia Eagles, Barkley hasn’t been able to break through and hold onto to a starting job for very long. He played in three games during his rookie season, but lasted just two years in Philadelphia.
Barkley then spent one year with the Arizona Cardinals before getting his biggest break with the Chicago Bears in 2016. He started six games for the franchise, but went 1-5 in games he started under center, throwing eight touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
After leaving the Bears after just one season, Barkley didn’t see time on the field again until he joined the Bills. He spent time with the San Fransisco 49ers, the Cardinals again and the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017 and 2018.
Barkley will always be well-known for his four strong years at USC, but he’ll do his best to add to his NFL legacy in his upcoming stint with the Titans.
