Mike Greenberg Names The Chiefs’ Biggest Challenger

The Kansas City Chiefs are widely viewed as the favorite to emerge from the AFC this upcoming season. ESPN’s Mike Greenberg thinks they’ll have one major challenger: the Tennessee Titans.

The Chiefs and Titans have had their fair share of battles over the years. Three years ago, Marcus Mariota and the Titans stunned Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium when they completed an 18-point comeback to bounce the Chiefs from the playoffs. Two years later in 2020, the two AFC teams met again, this time in the AFC Championship. That bout went in favor of the Chiefs who stormed to a 35-24 victory and went on to win Super Bowl LIV.

Will the Titans and Chiefs meet in the playoffs a third time in four years? If they do, Greenberg won’t be surprised to see Tennessee wipe out Kansas City.

“Everything is coming up Tennessee so far in this preseason,” Greenberg said during Monday’s edition of ESPN’s Get Up. “If you look at the Titans, they should be better. They added Julio Jones. Look at their division. The Jaguars are obviously at the beginning of a rebuilding process. … The Houston Texans are figured by everyone’s estimation to be the worst team in the AFC. … The Colts have had their two most important players be seriously injured already. … To me, the Titans feel like the easiest pick to at least win a division in the AFC this year.”

It’s not too crazy. The Titans have played the Chiefs well in past years. You could also make the argument Tennessee’s path to the AFC South crown is much easier than the Chiefs’ path to the AFC West title.

The Titans have improved each and every year with head coach Mike Vrabel at the helm and Ryan Tannehill under center.

Perhaps this is the year Tennessee holds off Kansas City and wins the AFC.
