Consider Titans head coach Mike Vrabel a fan of the NFL’s new overtime rules. Even though the proposal put forth by his team didn’t come to pass, Vrabel still thinks the results are a net positive for the league.
Now, both teams are guaranteed a possession should a playoff game go to OT. But the regular season format will be the same as previous years.
A member of the NFL’s competition committee, Mike Vrabel revealed that the league wanted to start with the postseason before adopting a permanent rule change across all games.
From the NFL owners meetings: Owners approve overtime change for postseason only.@Titans HC Mike Vrabel: “It’s a very good step to try and allow each of these offenses, especially these quarterbacks, to have an impact on the football game.”

“Those numbers are pretty strong for the team that takes possession of the football first, whether that’s on the first drive or the third drive,” Vrabel explained.
“So, it’s a very good step to try and allow each of these offenses, especially these quarterbacks that we are seeing, allow them to have an impact on the football game.”
There was a major push to make a change to the overtime rules after an insane AFC Divisional Round game that saw Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense score with just 13 seconds on the clock. After which, KC walked-off on a Travis Kelce touchdown in OT.
Ironically, after the Chiefs complained to the NFL about the overtime format when Tom Brady sent them home in the 2019 AFC Championship.
