Mike Vrabel: Titans could deploy more starters in Preseason Week 3

August 23, 2021 by Titans Wire Leave a Comment

When the Tennessee Titans take on the Chicago Bears at Nissan Stadium in Preseason Week 3, it’s possible we could see the team deploy more starters than it has in previous exhibition contests.

Following the Preseason Week 2 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that saw the vast majority of the projected starters on offense not play once again, head coach Mike Vrabel noted the importance of starters seeing at least some snaps to get better prepared for Week 1, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.

“I think there is some merit to going out there and working a pregame routine, and getting ready to play in the game, whether that is for five or 15, however many snaps,” Vrabel said. “I think there is some merit to that, just to get yourself mentally prepared.”

Through two preseason games, the Titans have deployed several starters on defense, but almost all of the team’s offensive starters have sat out. Perhaps that will change this week.

One of the newest Titans who has yet to take the field this preseason is wide receiver Julio Jones. Vrabel said he was unsure if Jones would even practice this week, let alone play.

Wide receiver A.J. Brown might not play either, as the Ole Miss product is reportedly dealing with a knee injury that has kept him out of practice. The good news is he’s expected to be ready for Week 1.

Titans’ WR A.J. Brown is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season despite a knee injury that recently has sidelined him during recent practices, per source.

The Titans and Bears will meet for the preseason finale on Saturday, Aug. 28, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. CT in Nashville. On the Tuesday following the contest, Tennessee will cut its roster down to 53 and will then turn its attention to the regular-season opener on Sept. 12 versus the Arizona Cardinals.
