The Tennessee Titans are officially getting a new stadium.
This morning, the Metro Nashville City Council approved $760 million in bonds, which combined with $500 million in state bonds makes $1.2 billion in public funds earmarked for the Titans’ new enclosed stadium.
Today’s vote means the Titans now have the most expensive public commitment in the NFL, overtaking the $850 million the Buffalo Bills received for their new stadium.
The reaction to the news has ranged from those excited about what this means for the future of Nashville and others criticizing the use of public funding for such a project.
“I live sports, but this is ridiculous. I’m sure that new hotel/motel tax could have been used to help the good folks of Nashville instead of subsidizing a billionaire’s football team,” one commenter said.

“The largest public backing in for a stadium in NFL history. More and more public money continues to go to private sectors while citizens bare the brunt of the cost. I can’t wait to see people paying exorbitant rates for tickets and parking while complaining about the extra costs,” a fourth person commented.
