Titans will start interviews today

The Tennessee Titans are set to start their interviews for the open general manager position today. The good news is that all nine guys they requested to meet with are going to meet with them. There was some speculation that the job would not be very attractive because of the structure and Chad Brinker having final say. That’s apparently not the case.

Here is the interview schedule for the next three days:

.@Titans‘ first round of GM interviews set for this weekend …

Today: Reggie McKenzie (Mia), Thomas Dimitroff (ex-Atl), John Spytek (Tampa).

Tomorrow: Ed Dodds (Indy), Matt Berry (Sea), Terrance Gray (Buf), Cat Hickman (Cle).

Sunday: Mike Borgonzi (KC), Ian Cunningham (Chi).

As I said yesterday, with middle Tennessee currently in SNOWpocalypse, all of these interviews will be conducted virtually. I really hope that they will actually bring the people here once they get to the second round of interviews.

Dianna Russini is reporting that Reggie McKenzie, who gets the first interview today, is the favorite for the job. McKenzie has deep ties to the state of Tennessee. He went to high school in Knoxville and played for the Tennessee Volunteers from 1981-1984.

After playing in the NFL from 1985-1992, he joined the Green Bay Packers front office and was there from 1994-2011. In 2012 he was hired as the general manager of the Las Vegas (Oakland at the time) Raiders. After he was fired in 2018 he joined the Miami Dolphins as a senior personnel executive.

I don’t love that there is already a favorite for the job. It would be nice to see them keep an open mind through the interview process, and you know, hire the best candidate. It’s probably crazy to expect that from this organization at this point.
