Report: Titans’ Brian Callahan expected to return in 2025

December 29, 2024 by Titans Wire

The Tennessee Titans have had a rough 2024 season in Brian Callahan’s first season at the helm, leading to questions about his future to bubble to the surface.

It appears that Callahan and some of his staff are safe and will return in 2025 according to a report by NFL.com insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport. In their article looking at the upcoming NFL coaching cycle, they said this about the Titans.

Tennessee Titans

It has been a trying season for the Titans, with a string of close early losses, underwhelming (and at times confounding) quarterback play and a 3-12 record entering Sunday’s game at Jacksonville. But first-year head coach Brian Callahan and the bulk of his staff are expected to return.

Internally, there is a feeling Callahan has shown long-term promise and the team has improved; the expectation next season is that that’ll be reflected more on the field and the scoreboard. Fixing the QB position — former second-round pick Will Levis was benched in December — is Job No. 1.

The Titans have other issues, too, including fixing a special teams unit that was a major liability early in the season. Some staff changes are possible.

It has been a disappointing season and it continues to spiral out of control, especially as the injuries continue to pile up. This news will likely not excite some of the fanbase, but it is likely the best move that general manager Ran Carthon can make. The Titans have played better than their record would indicate early in the season and they continue to play hard for Callahan.

Callahan will have to make some changes, though. There is no doubt that some on the staff underperformed and did not do a good job with the talent on hand.  Callahan should also consider adding an experienced play caller to the mix, too often in 2024 his offense struggled with both execution and game planning.

The Titans have two games remaining and nothing is set in stone. They will kick things off on Sunday when they face the Jaguars in AFC South action.
