Report: Titans making analytics hire with addition of Sarah Bailey

June 9, 2023 by Titans Wire

The Tennessee Titans have reportedly added to their analytics department with the hire of former Los Angeles Rams manager of football analytics, Sarah Bailey.

The news comes from ESPN’s Seth Walder, who notes Bailey held her former role with the Rams since 2017. Bailey will serve as Tennessee’s director, football research and development.

For more information on Bailey, check out this piece from Stu Jackson of the Rams’ official website.

While the Titans were slow to get on the analytics train under former general manager Jon Robinson, it’s been very clear that new general manager Ran Carthon is a bigger fan.

Not only did Carthon hire an analytics specialist in assistant general manager Chad Brinker, but he’s also spoken at length about using advanced metrics when scouting players.

“We’ve used analytics a lot with the 49ers,” Carthon said back in January “I think it definitely plays a part. We trust our eyes as scouts, but sometimes the data can drive you to a decision and help you see it from a different vantage point. So I think there’s a place in our game for it.

“I think in the (early years) of analytics, it was sort of pitting analytics and the scouting department against one another. And a lot of things that we did in scouting was (already) essentially analytics. It just didn’t have the title. So it has a part in our game, and we’re going to use every tool here to help us build a championship roster.”

The hiring of Bailey, who has an extensive background with analytics, is yet another example of the Titans getting with the times.
