The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with safety and special teams ace Matthias Farley, the team announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Farley, who went undrafted out of Notre Dame, has played with the Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets during his five year career, spending three seasons with the former and the last two with the latter.
Farley has been primarily a backup during his career and has done most of his work on special teams. He’s had one season as a full-time starter, which came with the Colts back in 2017, his second season.
In 2020, the 28-year-old was named one of the Jets’ team captains and played in 16 games (two starts), leading them in special teams tackles with eight.
For the Titans, Farley figures to continue to do most of his work on special teams, while also serving as depth behind safeties Kevin Byard and Amani Hooker in 2021.
Fellow safety, Dane Cruikshank, is under contract for next season and will likely battle it out with Farley for the right to be the primary backup.
