The Tennessee Titans continue to explore their options at the kicker position after the team held a tryout with Zane Gonzalez on Wednesday, according to the league’s transactions wire.
Gonzalez spent the last two-plus seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, posting an overall field goal success rate of 81.8 percent. In 2020, the 26-year-old kicker made 72.7 percent of his kicks.
The Cardinals moved on from Gonzalez this offseason, releasing him before the start of free agency. Arizona would go on to sign veteran kicker Matt Prater.
Gonzalez could get added to a lackluster kicker competition that currently includes 2020 undrafted free agent Tucker McCann and recently-signed Sam Ficken, who replaced struggling 2021 UDFA and kicker, Blake Haubeil.
In the latest kicker scorecard on Wednesday, Ficken made 6-of-7 field goals, while McCann was successful on 5-of-7 attempts, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.
The fact that the Titans, who have also worked out a pair of former CFL kickers, seem to be looking at everyone but 2020 starter, Stephen Gostkowski, might indicate that the 37-year-old isn’t an option.
In addition to trying out Gonzalez, the Titans also took a look at guard Jordan Roos, who can also play center.
The 28-year-old was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue by the Seattle Seahawks. He has appeared in 14 games (no starts) over two seasons, but hasn’t taken an offensive snap since 2017.
