On Tuesday, the Tennessee Titans made a minor move involving their front seven. The front office has decided to part ways with veteran linebacker Avery Williamson.
Williamson began his NFL career with the Tennessee Titans in 2014 as a fifth-round pick. It didn’t take him long to emerge as an impact player.
After several years of making plays for the Titans, Williamson signed a three-year, $22.5 million contract with the New York Jets. During his first year in New York, he had 120 tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception.
Unfortunately, Williamson suffered a torn ACL in his second season with the Jets. He then returned to the field in 2020 and spent time with both the Jets and Steelers.
The Titans signed Williamson from the Denver Broncos’ practice squad earlier this season with the hope that he could revitalize his career with the team that drafted him. It just wasn’t meant to be for Williamson, though.
With Rashaan Evans and David Long Jr. anchoring Tennessee’s linebacker corps, Williamson became expendable.

There were major concerns about the Titans’ defense heading into the 2021 season, but that unit has played fairly well through Week 8.
Tennessee currently owns a 6-2 record and is on track to win the AFC South.
