Titans being cautious with Julio Jones: 'The Julio watch will continue'

August 4, 2021 by Titans Wire Leave a Comment

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Julio Jones missed his second straight practice on Wednesday as the team continues to be cautious with their star wideout.

Jones suffered an injury during Monday’s session when he landed awkwardly while attempting to make a catch. At the time, beat writers noted that it didn’t seem serious, giving us a huge sigh of relief.

After the 32-year-old was absent once again on Wednesday, head coach Mike Vrabel said that the team is going to take it slow with Jones and will limit his practice reps throughout training camp, per David Boclair of Sports Illustrated.

“We’re going to be – probably – cautious with Julio,” Vrabel said. “So, the Julio watch will continue. We’ll have a plan for him, but I would anticipate we would be all on the same page by the time the season started.

“You’re going to see him out there at times. You’re going to see him on the other field [rehabbing at times]. He’s played a lot of games. So, that’s kind of where we’re going to be each and every day and I won’t have to address it every day.”

When asked if Jones was OK after Monday’s practice, Vrabel replied, “yeah, sure.”

While Jones has played in 13 games or more in eight of 10 seasons, there is still an injury history to be concerned about, as the veteran has played through numerous ailments during his career.

When healthy last season, Jones was still producing at a high level, so the notion that he is on the down side of his career just isn’t based on reality. As long as he’s healthy, we expect him to perform like an elite receiver.

The only real issue with his absences is that he’ll have less time to build chemistry with his new quarterback, Ryan Tannehill. Aside from that, Jones is a pro and will be ready on gameday no matter how much he practices.
