Titans' Ben Jones listed among NFL's most underrated offensive players

June 4, 2022 by Titans Wire Leave a Comment

Tennessee Titans center Ben Jones has been arguably the most underrated center in the NFL during his time in Nashville.

Not only has Jones played at a high level with one sack, 10 QB hits and 26 quarterback hurries allowed over the past two campaigns, he’s also been very durable after having missed just one game over six seasons with the Titans.

In an article listing the most underrated offensive players in the NFL going into 2022, Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar tabbed Jones as his center.

The Texans selected Jones in the fourth round of the 2012 draft out of Georgia, but it wasn’t until the Titans signed him to a four-year, $17.5 million contract in 2016 that Jones started to become one of the NFL’s best centers. Tennessee gave Jones a two-year extension in 2019, and another one in March, because he’s just a set-it-and-forget-it guy at a crucial position. The Titans are a power-running team with a heavy play-action passing game, and while Jones doesn’t look like your prototypical headbanger, he can get it done against defenders who outweigh him considerably. And in pass pro? No problem. Over the last two seasons, Jones has allowed one sack, 10 quarterback hits, and 26 quarterback hurries. That’s a decent single season for a center.

Jones checks every box for Tennessee.

Not only is he a good player, Jones is also a great leader and locker room guy, and he comes relatively cheap, as his two-year, $14 million extension ranks 11th among centers in terms of annual average.

Jones was one of the first moves general manager Jon Robinson made after taking on the role, and the 32-year-old undoubtedly remains one of Robinson’s best over the course of his tenure in Nashville.
