Titans' Breon Borders turning heads early on in training camp

July 29, 2021 by Titans Wire Leave a Comment

The Tennessee Titans appeared to find a diamond in the rough last season with cornerback Breon Borders, who was one of the few bright spots on defense in 2020.

With injuries to the secondary, Borders was signed and called into action to start for Tennessee, and outside of one bad game, he was stellar before suffering an injury that ended his season early.

When targeted, the 26-year-old allowed a completion rate of 51.1 percent and a quarterback rating of 86.6, which was a breath of fresh air, especially when you consider the struggles the secondary had.

Through the first two days of training camp in 2021, Borders has been among the most impressive players, as noted by those on the ground.

Borders was +2 today at camp. And has been impressive for the second day in a row. https://t.co/75xhiW6TpX

Breon Borders had maybe the best 1v1 DB performance you could have today.

He stopped Reynolds, Batson & McMath from catching passes. Drew praise from coaches and teammates. #Titans

Was on opposite side of field and couldn’t get great video, but Breon Border was pretty dominant in goal line 1v1s just now. Sticky coverage. Didn’t see him allow a catch. #Titans

Titans head coach Mike Vrabel acknowledged Borders had a good day on Thursday, while also praising the cornerback for his preparation, competitiveness and toughness, per ESPN’s Turron Davenport.

“I love Breon’s competitiveness, I love his attitude, his willingness to learn and work, and to compete,” Vrabel said. “He probably started five or six games for us last year. He does it like we coach it, and certainly enjoy having him in here everyday and learning. He’s one of those guys that come into the building ready to go, and he’s got a level of toughness to him and competitive spirit that we like.”

With the Titans’ crowded situation at cornerback going into 2021, Borders is competing for a spot on the roster as a depth piece, a role that could be vital thanks to the team’s uncertain situation at the position.

In one of our training camp previews, we labeled Borders as a “near-lock” and said “we would honestly be surprised if Borders doesn’t make the cut.”

After seeing what he has done thus far, we’re even more confident he’ll be one of the final 53.
