Titans Coach Mike Vrabel Shares Update On His Status

Titans head coach Mike Vrabel against the Ravens.

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel announced over the weekend that he tested positive for COVID-19, soon after his team took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2 of the preseason. On Tuesday, he gave a positive update on his health to reporters on a Zoom call.

Vrabel confirmed that he does in fact have COVID-19, but does not have any symptoms. He received an antibody infusion and now hopes to get two negative tests in 48 hours so that he can return as early as possible.

“I feel fine. I feel great,” Vrabel told reporters Tuesday, via NFL Network’s Michael Girardi.

The update is welcome news for the Titans, who dealt with a significant outbreak of COVID-19 during the 2020 regular season. 13 players and 11 team personnel tested positive in just a one-month span, causing some worry within the organization.

When Vrabel shared the news of his diagnosis on Sunday, he revealed that he went to get tested at the team facility when he wasn’t feeling well and started to experience symptoms. Thankfully, those symptoms have not gotten worse.

Since Vrabel tested positive, three Titans players have gone onto Tennessee’s COVID/reserve list.

While Vrabel continues to quarantine, the rest of the Titans coaching staff has stepped up to prepare the team for its preseason finale against the Chicago Bears on Saturday. The head coach named special teams coach Craig Aukerman, linebackers coach Jim Haslet and defensive assistant Jim Schwartz as three of the most integral members who have assumed a larger role in his absence.

Vrabel’s status for the game in Tennessee this weekend remains unknown. Titans-Bears is slated kick-off at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 28.
