Titans First-Round Bust On the Way Out – Chargers, Saints Potential Suitors?

July 19, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Treylon Burks has not worked out for the Tennessee Titans, and the team could trade him in the coming weeks. Famously selected with the pick acquired in the A.J. Brown trade, Burks began his career on a somewhat-promising note, hauling in 33 receptions for 444 yards and one touchdown in 11 games. Unfortunately, he couldn’t build on that encouraging debut, as he caught just 16 passes in 2023 and four in 2024.

Now entering the final year of his rookie contract, Brian Callahan and the Tennessee Titans might trade Treylon Burks for whatever they can get. While they probably won’t receive more than a conditional late-round pick, Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder says it’s past time for Tennessee to part ways with their underwhelming wideout. Looking across the league, the Los Angeles Chargers and New Orleans Saints could roll the dice on the veteran.

“It’s hard to imagine the Titans can get anything more than a seventh-round pick for Burks, but at this point, even that would be worth the trade,” Holder writes. “The 2022 18th overall selection heads into training camp buried on the depth chart and as a cut candidate. So, Tennessee might as well see if it can get anything in return for him.”

Titans Urged to Trade Treylon Burks – Chargers, Saints Top Suitors

The Los Angeles Chargers entered the offseason with a weak wide receiver room, and the Mike Williams retirement only adds pressure to this top-heavy unit. Nobody expected Williams to put up another 1,000-yard season, but the former first-round pick had a strong rapport with quarterback Justin Herbert and could’ve used his size to win in contested situations. With him gone, the Chargers passing attack will likely run through Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and second-round rookie Tre Harris.

McConkey is the real deal, but Johnston is better in a depth role, and nobody knows what the future holds for Harris. Treylon Burks may not be the safest bet in the world, but he shouldn’t cost much in a trade, and head coach Jim Harbaugh excels at bringing out the best in his players. Ultimately, it’s a low-risk, medium-reward move that could help this team cover one of its biggest weaknesses.

Helping the Rookie

The New Orleans Saints don’t have the roster to compete for a playoff spot, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t trade for Treylon Burks. Second-round rookie Tyler Shough will likely start the season under center, and New Orleans must do everything in their power to ensure he becomes their franchise quarterback of the future. Unfortunately, they don’t have the resources to go after proven commodities, so they might as well see if Burks has anything left in his tank.

Chris Olave is a good receiver, but his extensive concussion history makes him a massive injury risk. Rashid Shaheed, meanwhile, is an adequate deep threat but doesn’t run a full route tree. If Burks can recapture his collegiate form, he could be a solid depth option for the young quarterback.
