Titans go all defense in Todd McShay's two-round mock draft

April 3, 2021 by Titans Wire Leave a Comment

In his latest two-round mock draft, ESPN’s Todd McShay has the Tennessee Titans going all defense with their first two picks of the 2021 NFL draft.

At No. 22 overall, McShay has Tennessee taking cornerback Greg Newsome II out of Northwestern, and at No. 53 overall safety Andre Cisco out of Syracuse.

Here’s what McShay had to say about both picks:

Tennessee could use reinforcements along the offensive line, but to me, this pick is all about either a pass-catcher or a cornerback. The Titans lost Corey Davis, Jonnu Smith, Adoree’ Jackson and Desmond King II from those positions in free agency. So let’s look at the board. LSU’s big receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. would be an option, but the better value falls with Newsome. He’s a shutdown corner who would fit nicely with Janoris Jenkins and Kristian Fulton in the Tennessee CB corps. But I’d like to see a few more interceptions.

Again without much receiver value on the board, the Titans continue to look to the secondary (they took Greg Newsome II in Round 1). Cisco had 13 interceptions over 24 career games and is a rangy, instinctive centerfielder.

Newsome is certainly a realistic options for the Titans in the first round with their need at cornerback, but there’s also a possibility Tennessee could trade back from No. 22 and still land him while also acquiring more picks.

As for the Cisco pick, chances are the Titans won’t be looking for a safety that early in the draft, if at all. Tennessee has bigger needs to address at wide receiver, EDGE, defensive line and offensive tackle if they go cornerback in Round 1.
