Titans' Nate Davis talks changing diet, how he can improve in 2022

June 30, 2022 by Titans Wire Leave a Comment

Tennessee Titans right guard Nate Davis was noticeably leaner when he arrived at mandatory minicamp a few weeks back.

Davis says changing his diet and adding more muscle while maintaining his weight was a point of emphasis for him this offseason, and it’s something he believes is already paying off.

“I have put a lot of emphasis on my diet, just researching things, and it’s starting to pay off,” Davis said, via Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. “I was able to keep my weight, while also adding muscle. I am excited. I feel great.”

Offensive line coach Keith Carter has certainly noticed Davis’ transformation, also.

“He works really hard to figure out how to get the most out of his body… And I think he (looks) big, strong and all of those things, and in condition,” Carter said.

The 2022 season will be a big one for Davis.

Not only is the 2019 third-round pick entering a contract year, but Davis is also looking to bounce back from a lackluster 2021 campaign that saw him struggle in pass protection.

The Charlotte product posted a 49.2 Pro Football Focus pass-blocking grade and allowed five sacks, four more than he gave up in 2021.

Davis did have a lot to overcome, though. He missed training camp reps and caught COVID-19 twice over the course of the year. Adding to those issues, he was also tasked with working next to David Quessenberry, who led the NFL in sacks allowed and didn’t make Davis’ job any easier.

As far as how he can improve in his fourth year, Davis says focusing on the details will go a long way toward helping him get better.

“I was always a perfectionist, that’s going back to when I started playing football when I was seven years old,” Davis said. “I am probably my worst critic. Being able to hone in on those little details (moving forward), should help me out a lot.”
