Titans’ offense and defense are night and day

October 8, 2024 by Titans Wire

The Tennessee Titans are coming off their bye week, sitting at 1-3 on the season. To this point in the young season, the team has been a tale of really polar opposite units.

#Titans team stat ranks after Wk 5

Overall 30th 1st
Pass 29th 1st
Run 18th T-15th
Pts. 20th (19.8) 15th (22.5)

These issues are apparent when looking at their 30th-ranked offense. The sputtering offense is led by inconsistent QB Will Levis. While signs have been pointing up, these have been few and far between. Between poor decision-making, erratic throws under pressure, and subpar offensive line play, the unit is inconsistent at best.

Now, with Levis coming off an injury, questions will continue to build on whether or not the unit can improve, especially with this offensive line configuration. Head coach Bill Callahan continues to say that it is a week-to-week competition for playing time along the right side of the unit, but depth has been a problem all season, and that could impact the much-needed improvement.

Even though the running game has looked good at times, it struggles to gain stable footing with Levis at the helm. For the Titans to improve on the dismal ranking, Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears must carry the load, while Levis and the offensive line work out their issues.

Defensively, the unit has been stout, although probably not as dominant as their top ranking would indicate. The defense is definitely not the reason the Titans sit at 1-3. They were dominant in the season-opening loss to the Chicago Bears and backed that up with another good performance against the New York Jets. Unfortunately, they came down to Earth against the Green Bay Packers before bouncing back against the Miami Dolphins.

The Titans definitely have a defense that will potentially keep them in every game, giving the team some hope in what has become a disappointing division. Incredibly, the Titans are a win away from second place in the AFC South and there is plenty of time left in the season.

Find out if the Titans can grab that victory when they suit up against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon at Nissan Stadium.
