Titans place Adoree' Jackson on IR, promote 3 from practice squad

September 14, 2020 by Titans Wire Leave a Comment

Tennessee Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson has been placed on IR, the team announced on Monday. Taking his place on the active roster will be cornerback Tye Smith, who was on the team’s practice squad.

Jackson (knee) was a surprise addition to the injury report this week and was ruled out on Saturday. Thanks to new IR rules in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jackson can return after three weeks.

Regardless, losing Jackson is a huge blow to the Titans’ defense no matter how long he’s out. He’s the team’s No.1 corner and is expected to take that next step to becoming an elite player at his position in his fourth year.

In other moves, the Titans promoted running Jeremy McNichols and wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine from the practice squad for the Week 1 contest against the Denver Broncos.

Teams are allowed to promote two players from the practice squad to the active roster before each game, also due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both McNichols and Westbrook-Ikhine will return to the practice squad after.

Linebacker Daren Bates was officially signed to the practice squad, while linebacker Malik Jefferson and defensive back Chris Miller were cut from it. Bates spent the past three seasons with Tennessee, so he’s a familiar face.

There are a few interesting takeaways from the promotion of McNichols and Westbrook-Ikhine.

For starters, the Titans will now carry just three outside linebackers into game day in Harold Landry, Jadeveon Clowney and Kamalei Correa, as both Derick Roberson and Vic Beasley have already been ruled out. That means we’ll probably see a lot of Clowney, who wasn’t certain to get a big workload after joining the Titans so late.

Adding to that, the Titans bringing up another wide receiver could mean Corey Davis either isn’t 100 percent or won’t play after showing up on the injury report with a hamstring issue. Davis did practice fully the last two days of the week, though.
