The Tennessee Titans have made their decision at backup quarterback. They’ll be sticking with the familiar face, keeping Logan Woodside over the veteran Matt Barkley. The Titans announced that they had released Barkley today, signaling the end of the battle despite Ryan Tannehill remaining on the COVID list.

The #Titans release QB Matt Barkley, meaning Logan Woodside has won the backup job. They would like Barkley back on the practice squad, if possible.

As Rapoport points out, Tennessee is hoping to add Barkley back to their practice squad.

Barkley signed with the Titans late after the team moved on from DeShone Kizer. He ended up completing 24-39 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns this preseason, tossing just one interception. Woodside finished 29-40, throwing for 248 yards. He also threw three touchdowns against just one interception.

After a neck and neck battle, Woodside likely won the job on Saturday night with a stronger and more efficient performance against the Bears. Still, he doesn’t exactly give us much confidence in the QB2 role.

The former Toledo Rocket joined the league after being drafted in the seventh round by the Bengals. He joined the Titans practice squad in 2018, before a stint in the AAF. He rejoined the Titans after the AAF folded and ultimately stuck with the team.

He now wins another battle, securing his spot on the 53-man roster for the 2021 season.
