In an effort to create more cap space, the Tennessee Titans have released a number of starting players this week. But the latest release hits pretty hard – literally.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Titans are releasing veteran linebacker Zach Cunningham. The veteran linebacker is coming off his second season in Tennessee and his sixth season overall.
Injuries limited Cunningham to just six games in 2022. He finished the season with 24 tackles and one pass defended.
Cunningham first joined the Titans off waivers from the rival Houston Texans last season. He quickly found his niche on the team, recording 26 tackles and three tackles for loss in four starts for Tennessee before contributing 10 more tackles and a tackle for loss in their playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Zach Cunningham was a second-round pick by the Texans out of Vanderbilt in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was an immediate impact player for the team, recording at least 90 tackles in each of his first four seasons.
The 2020 season saw Cunningham lead the league in both solo tackles and total tackles with 106 and 164 respectively. But the relationship with the team fractured during their disastrous 2021 season.
Cunningham was benched twice that season for violations of team rules and ultimately waived in December of that season.
The Titans quickly scooped him up and he assisted them in their playoff run to end the season.
Now he’s looking for his third team in as many years.
