The Titans have made a roster move today, adding to their quarterback room. Veteran passer Matt Barkley announced his own deal with the team on Thursday.

The backup quarterback position is an obvious point of weakness on this roster. Before the addition of Barkley, it was Logan Woodside and DeShone Kizer battling it out for the No. 2 job behind Ryan Tannehill. Barkley now adds another arm to that competition, one with considerably more experience.
Barkley was a fourth round pick back in 2013, falling to the Eagles. He played two seasons in Philadelphia before moving on to spend one season in Chicago. Barkley has since spent the last three seasons as the backup in Buffalo.
In his career, Barkley has a 58.4 percent completion percentage, throwing for 2,699 yards. He’s thrown 11 touchdowns against 22 interceptions. Barkley has appeared in 19 games in his career, making seven starts. He’s started just one time since the 2016 season.
Does Barkley solve any problems for the Titans? Probably not. His career numbers pretty much tell his story. But it does spice up the backup quarterback battle and give the team another option, while pushing Woodside and Kizer a little more. This is one of the main stories we’ll be following when the Titans take the field for the first time during the preseason next Friday against the Falcons.
