Titans still possess significant cap space a week into free agency

March 25, 2020 by Titans Wire Leave a Comment

The NFL’s free agency period officially began a week ago and through the first seven days, the Tennessee Titans still possess a significant amount of cap space to improve its roster.

Tennessee has over $26 million in cap space, the ninth most in the league according to Over the Cap.

Even with re-signing quarterback Ryan Tannehill to a massive $118 million deal, franchise tagging running back Derrick Henry, and giving pass-rusher Vic Beasley a one-year “prove it” deal, the Titans still have plenty of room to work with.

One player that the Titans have been linked to since free agency began is with pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney, who is the biggest name on the market that has yet to sign with a team.

If they strikes out on Clowney, the Titans are one of the teams remaining with the necessary cap space to sign a notable pass-rusher.

Former Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Everson Griffen is still on the market, as is ex-Denver Bronco Derek Wolfe, and Ziggy Ansah, Clowney’s teammate with the Seattle Seahawks last season.

Of course, the Titans could also use their cap space toward re-signing cornerback Logan Ryan. Ryan had the best season of his career in 2019, setting career-highs in tackles (113), pass deflections (18), sacks (4.5) and forced fumbles (4).

Ryan reportedly won’t take less than $10 million and is “entertaining all offers and will consider a short term deal”, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport.

Whether the move is to re-sign Ryan or break the bank for Clowney, Tennessee’s general manager Jon Robinson is in an enviable position to improve the Titans.
