Titans’ Treylon Burks, a valuable trade candidate?

October 6, 2024 by Titans Wire

With the Tennessee Titans on their bye and their season at a crossroads, it is time to take stock of their roster and consider where they could make some changes heading into their stretch run.

Looking at their schedule, the Titans have a tough road ahead. Not only do they have their entire divisional slate on tap, but they also have some games against teams such as the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, and Cincinnati Bengals, making some Sundays more difficult to gain traction and maintain momentum.

With this season being the first of the Brian Callahan era and the young quarterback they are trying to develop, it is likely the Titans will look toward more of a rebuilding year and will be playing for the future. Many outside the organization believe the same and have already mentioned veteran WR DeAndre Hopkins as a trade chip. However, another wide receiver should be mentioned more prominently: Treylon Burks.

While Burks has been a disappointment since being drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft, he is still young and under team control past the 2024 season. By comparison, Hopkins is a free agent at the end of the season, which could impact any potential compensation.

With size, speed, and pedigree, his 51 receptions for 676 yards and one touchdown on 90 targets could entice a franchise to approach the Titans with an offer. The Titans should jump at the opportunity if one comes to pass. Burks is well Behind Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, and Tyler Boyd in production and has been looking up at them since their arrival.

Tennessee has some depth at wide receiver and will likely look forward to free agency or the draft to add to the unit after the season. To recoup anything from Burks would be an improvement over his 2024 production, even as he continues to out-snap Hopkins.

For Burks, this could also be a huge opportunity, as he could potentially use the change of scenery and systems to kick-start what has been an underwhelming career. Will it happen? Only time will tell. But a trade with the Burks might just be in the cards heading into the trade deadline.
