Titans’ Tyjae Spears shares special moment with fan

October 3, 2024 by Titans Wire

Tennessee Titans second-year running back Tyjae Spears is already an improved back in 2024 than he was in 2023. He’s on pace to have more carries this year than last year, and while his yards-per-carry are slightly down, that will change as the season wears on and he becomes more confident.

With Mason Rudolph under center, Spears benefitted greatly, as did Tony Pollard. The Titans even earned their first win over the Dolphins on Monday Night Football this week, and Spears got to share a special moment with a fan while on the road.

WHOLESOME: Monday night, #Titans standout RB Tyjae Spears shared a special moment with a fan.

This brought tears to my eyes. Does not get more pure than this.

As Spears jogs to the locker room, he has a game ball in his hands that he’s tossing when a fan catches his eye. He stops, looks at the fan and smiles. Then he walks over to the stands, where you can see a boy (perhaps a young man) in a wheelchair. Spears offers him a fist-bump, but the boy can’t reach so his caregiver moves his chair forward and helps the boy return the bump. Upon seeing the fan’s reaction, Spears tosses the game ball to him, making his entire night.

It’s one thing to go see your favorite team play a game. It’s another thing when you travel to do it, or when you don’t live near your team and they come to visit. Those occasions are rare, so when an interaction with a player tops off that rare moment, well, any fan would be excited.

As the parent of a kid with different abilities and medical complexities, I can attest to how much this moment meant to this fan and his chaperone. Being noticed goes so much farther than you think it does. This is a moment that young man will never forget, and all it took was 30 seconds of Spears’ time.
