When you think of former NFL running back Eddie George, you think of him as the Heisman Trophy winner out of Ohio State and the Tennessee Titans great who is among the best, most beloved players in team history.
One think you don’t (and can’t) think of him as is a Dallas Cowboys legend.
That’s because George played just one season (13 games) with the Cowboys back in 2004, which happened to be his last in the league — and it also happened to be his worst.
However, that didn’t stop the Cowboys from trying to claim him as their own legend, which they did upon the announcement of George taking the job at Tennessee State as the head coach.

Titans legend? Sure. Cowboys legend? Absolutely not.
Adding insult to injury, the Cowboys originally called him “Eddie James” in a tweet that was quickly deleted and replaced with one that had George’s actual name.

As we stated on social media, George is as much of a Cowboys legend as Randy Moss is a Titans legend.
As you’d expect, Twitter had some fun with this whole thing, which is silly, but entertaining nonetheless. Check out the reaction:
Eddie George is a Cowboys legend as much as Randy Moss is a Titans legend https://t.co/D23jkBQt8v

Someone please tell me the cowboys are not claiming Eddie George right now… https://t.co/e5lJNRXfbV

“Cowboys legend Eddie George” has as much of a good ring to it as “Titans legend Andre Johnson” https://t.co/WOnN9TAJMB

It’s funny because we always joke about “Titans legend Randy Moss” or “Titans legend Andre Johnson” but Dallas actually said this with their chest https://t.co/KiqE72snnZ

For ten billion dollars I would have never remembered that Eddie George played for the Cowboys, this is so shameful lol. He was WASHED with Dallas. https://t.co/86bggw4r1Z

I love that the Cowboys thought they needed to comment on Eddie George being hired at TSU. Yeah gang the world waited with baited breath for your thoughts

Ah yes, Cowboys legend Eddie George.
I look forward to the day Emmett Smith does something newsworthy so the Cardinals can claim him too. https://t.co/zou7UbJeo3

Eddie George had like 100 carries in his one season in Dallas. But yeah, Cowboy Legend.

Ah yes, Cowboys legend Eddie “George” James. I hope one day I see a similar story about famed Jets legend Ronnie Lott.

While we appreciate the Cowboys recognizing the hiring of George, they went a little too far by trying to claim him as their own legend.
