Last night’s NFL draft first round was packed with trades all across the board — including one for Tennessee Titans star wide receiver A.J. Brown.
The newest member of the Eagles organization was sent to Philadelphia in exchange for the No. 18 and No. 101 overall picks in this year’s draft.
Brown claims his exit from Nashville “wasn’t his fault.” He wanted to stay with the Titans, but the organization offered what he thought was too low of a figure.
The Titans reportedly offered Brown a contract worth less than $20 million per year. He said the offer had a base salary of $16 million with possible incentives up to $20 million.
Brown signed a four-year, $100 million deal with the Eagles including $57 million guaranteed.
“This wasn’t my fault,” Brown said after the trade, per ESPN. “I wanted to stay, but the deal they offered was a low offer. The deal they offered wasn’t even $20 million a year.”
Brown, 24, just finished his third NFL season after being selected with a second-round pick in the 2019 draft. Through 13 games this past season, the physical wideout logged 869 yards and five touchdowns. His best season came in 2020 when he notched 1,075 yards, 11 touchdowns and his first Pro-Bowl selection.
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said the organization “went to extreme” to try to keep Brown in town. Brown disagrees with this assertion.
“I would have stayed if they offered me $22 million,” Brown added, per ESPN.
With the No. 18 pick they acquired in this trade, the Titans picked up Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks — a player who many compare to Brown.
