Where Titans' initial 53-man roster ranks in terms of age

August 31, 2022 by Titans Wire

The Tennessee Titans finalized their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday and the group is on the younger side of the spectrum in terms of average age.

According to Spotrac, Tennessee’s initial 53-man roster has an average age of 26.21 years, which ranks 17th out of 32 teams in the NFL when going from oldest to youngest.

The roster is younger than the league average, which sits at 26.23 years. It is also younger than last year’s initial roster that sported an average age of 26.565 years, ranking as the fifth-oldest group.

A big reason for the dip in age is the fact that the Titans kept 11 rookies on their initial 53-man roster, six of which come on the offensive side of the ball.

The Titans also parted ways with aging veterans like wideout Julio Jones (33), left guard Rodger Saffold (34) and punter Brett Kern (36) to further bring that average age down.

Having veteran presences is no doubt important for an NFL team, but youth is also vital to success in this day and age. The Titans seem to have a perfect mix of both.
