Why Titans feel starters should play in preseason finale

August 22, 2024 by WKRN - ABC 2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Titans are just two and a half weeks away from their season opener in Chicago, and head coach Brian Callahan said his team still needs more live action reps.

Therefore, the starters will play on Sunday, Aug. 25 against the New Orleans Saints.

“I’d like to see a little more football because we will be off for what amounts to close to two weeks before the opener, so they won’t see the field again playing live football,” Callahan said during his press conference last weekend. “I think that we need to play.”

The Saints haven’t said if their starters will also play, but the Titans are looking for another opportunity clean up a few things — especially on offense. Veteran receiver Tyler Boyd was back at practice this week after missing last week. He knows how important these preseason games will be for building confidence.

“It’s huge, especially if Will [Levis] go, you know, and he is going, so I think it’s just like I said before, just building that camaraderie, building that confidence in one another, just building that relationship, knowing how guys are going to run certain routes, knowing what routes he know guys can win on every time, and just the repetition, just going out there feeling like one unit, the starting unit, the team that’s gonna go out there each and every week with you,” Boyd said following practice on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

“I feel like we’re all in a really good spot with our knowledge of what’s at our hands playbook-wise and really do think we’re in really good spot, but I think in terms of goals for this weekend, it doesn’t change. Just do my job, not trying to do anything too crazy,” said quarterback Will Levis.
